Limonaia
Trespassing is part of a large project dedicated to flight, to current migratory flows, to the disorientation of those who arrive in a foreign land. I imagined the state of those who, having survived, find themselves in a limbo in which they no longer perform any action but, on the contrary, are overwhelmed by events. It is a state of passage, an invasion that one inevitably undergoes before recomposing oneself and beginning to live again. The tapestry is an object that for centuries for many remote peoples and cultures has been considered the lightest home one can carry, still serving as roof, bed and tent. Nomadism and migration are the driving force behind my research and the human condition to which I dedicate much of my work. But the tapestry also has the value of the story told, of biography, it is a message that inevitably interprets the spirit of the times, bringing together material and metaphor, form and idea, architecture and decoration. The tapestry is made in Sardinia according to the most common hand-loom weaving technique, thus totally eco-friendly and without any use of electricity. By adopting the semi-full technique, I was able to render the thin letters in relief, tone on tone, and focus visual attention on the written message:
Sailed by seas that are not blue
Traversed by roads that are deserts
Away from eyes that are shelters
Inhabited by houses that are not mine
Her work focuses on experimenting with the textile craftsmanship of Sardinia, her homeland. She likes to emphasise the intersection between ancient and modern, between a contemporary perspective and the art of weaving, which is the most archaic technique, yet familiar to her, on which to base an expressive language. She lives and works in Bologna.
