Night and Day lamps utilise silver-based glass to create a dual-colour scheme when on or off, addressing a common design challenge. In daylight, when turned off, the lamps exhibit mossy forest shades of grey, ochre and green. When turned on at night, they transition to a gradient of fiery hues - orange, pink and ochre. This unique visual effect stems from Hillerová’s experiments with glass traditionally used in mirror sunglasses. The dual-colour scheme balances the need for a warm, cosy glow at night with tranquil tones for a daytime look. Inspired by gentle movements, the Day and Night lamps embrace organic and diverse yet mutually compatible shapes and sizes. Each lamp is a unique, hand-blown glass original by Hana Hillerová, crafted in Prague, Czech Republic, by Martin Janecký at Janecký Studio. Custom sizes and shapes are available for personalised design solutions.
Hana Hillerova grew up in Prague, where she received her art education at Charles University. She has then moved to the USA, where she has studied at the California Polytechnic University, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture as well as the University of Texas at Austin where she led the Creative Research Laboratory. She created sculptures and installations, but also public art, most notably a series of 20 sculptures at the Intercontinental Airport in Houston. After almost 20 years of visual art career in the USA, she has relocated back to her native Prague to create fine art as well as design oriented works in glass.
