Serra Alta
Sinus is a modular shelf that consists of individual, stacked wooden modules. The design describes the attempt to push the limits of the material, by reducing it. To develop a shelf that requires as little material as possible, Gunther has studied the construction principles of cardboard boxes and lightweight panels and brought these principles to a new scale. Between the panels of a module is a sinusoidally arranged veneer strip, with a material thickness of just 1 millimetre. Thanks to the intelligent arrangement and the developed curved line, the shelving is very stable despite the minimal use of material. The structure is so thin that light shines through the material. Stacking the modules rotated by 180 degrees, it creates exciting shapes, projections and recesses and a very scuIpturaI object.
Gunther Pfeffer is an artist and designer who focuses on fine craftsmanship, materiality and the aesthetics of simplicity. His roots lie in craftsmanship since carpentry is a tradition in his family. After over a decade honing his craft, he studied spatial object design in order to learn how to express his creativity. After graduating, he opened his own studio and worked on self-initiated projects as well as customer projects in the field of unique pieces, editions/series and interior projects. In his work he uses traditional carpentry techniques, but always transforms and adapts them, depending on each individual project, in the most unique way. Gunther develops objects and furniture that combine seemingly contradictory characteristics such as poetry (with respect to the idea behind the objects) and reduction (with respect to the use of elementary forms and design principles). simplicity, technical precision and a discreet but nonetheless forceful design language are the core themes of his work.
